A husband and wife who have difficulty having children, should not be discouraged. IVF method is one that can be taken. But what exactly is the IVF process?
Medically the process of IVF is called in vitro fertilization (IVF). Pregnancy that occurs begins with the egg fertilized by sperm outside the body in a tube.
A series of procedures
In contrast to pregnancy in general, where fertilization takes place in the body, IVF has certain procedures. IVF procedures are usually performed after the consumption of drugs, surgery or artificial insemination is not able to overcome the problem of infertility. The IVF method consists of a series of procedures, which include:- Stimulating the female body by injecting hormones to produce several eggs at a time.
- Testing through blood or ultrasound tests to determine readiness for egg collection. Previously, the woman will also be given an injection that will help mature the developing egg and start the ovulation process.
- During the egg retrieval procedure, the doctor will look for follicles in the uterus using ultrasound assistance. The egg will then be removed using a special needle that has a cavity. This procedure takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Some women are given pain medication before the procedure, but can also be given a mild sedative until totally anesthetized.
- The egg is immediately reunited with partner sperm, which must be taken the same day. Then stored in the clinic to ensure maximum development.
- After the embryos from the fertilization of the egg and sperm are considered sufficiently mature, the embryo will be inserted into the uterus. The doctor will insert a kind of conduit tube called a catheter into the vagina until it reaches the uterus. To increase the chance of getting pregnant, three embryos are generally transferred at once.
- Two weeks after embryo transfer, the woman will be asked to do a pregnancy test.
When is IVF Process Needed?
